I love photographing friends from high school because they always get more and more beautiful with age. Sarah + Katherine are the perfect example. Sarah and I go all the way back to fourth grade when we were in Mrs. Brassfield's class together, which was one of my favorite elementary years. Sarah, Jess + Camden and Katherine, Nirmesh + Avery chose Line Creek in Peachtree City. Perfect. We hiked + explored finding sweet spots along the way.

Lauren O’Neill – Lauren O’Neill Design

Lauren is based out of Alexandria, VA. So how did we get connected? I began this process needing a new logo. I love the work of Suann Song, curator of the Simplesong Blog, so I reached out to Suann to see if she offered any graphic services. She said that her focus remained with letterpress, but her studio assistant, Lauren O ’Neill, was an amazing graphic designer. I immediately reached out to Lauren and began the process of creating a new logo for Sugar Photography.

As we delved into logo design, I continued to develop the brand. Then as I became more familiar with my style, I decided it was necessary to embark on a full branding overhaul. That’s when we began the process of designing the website, blog and packaging.

Lauren has a very clean, fresh and simple design style that I love. Less is more. Lauren was very patient with me, as I worked through my own style and together we landed on the sweetest finished product.

Lauren’s patience and eye for clean design is what you need for a one of a kind look.

I began working with Tiffany about half way through the design process. Through a mutual Twitter and blog friend, Alli Michelle of Hooray Designs, I began to follow Tiffany, and saw that she had a very clear and simple approach to marketing. Tiffany is focused on the customer and providing a product the consumer needs. She encouraged me to figure out my client base by imagining my perfect client and then asked me to simply tell my clients what I want them to know before they even ask--give them ideas. This advice was clear and simple, and it provided the clarity I needed to propel the brand forward.

So who is my ideal client? It’s the person who says, “Every Saturday we wake up, get dressed, take our family to the bagel shop, head to the park, then come back home for an afternoon nap. Will you capture that?" Every family celebrates it’s own everyday, sweet, special traditions. That’s what I want to capture. Natural. Beautiful. Simple.

I continue to work with Tiffany, and you should too.

What is the Sweet Experience?

When you work with Sugar Photography, we capture your sweetest times- the memories you want to keep and the moments you want your kids to remember. Natural. Beautiful. Simple. I photograph your connection with whom or what you love - your spouse, your kids, your hobby or your craft. The way you love is perfect. It really is.

From my days before photography, I have vivid memories of photo shoots with my family and kids. I felt awkward - even among those I loved. I thought “Am I doing this right? Does the photographer think our family is not normal? Is this us?”

Then I took up the business and realized an important truth. Like each person, each family has a one-of-a-kind personality. Some are very affectionate and some show love through glances. Some love to laugh and some like to talk. Some cuddle, some wrestle, some run. Every one loves differently, but the way you love is perfect. I never want you to think "I'm not doing this right!" I just want you to be you.

It’s not just about a perfect picture. It's about perfect love. Your love. I want the photo to tell your story - happy, sad, mad, glad.

You tell your story best in a place, in an activity, that is natural for you. Whether it's a quiet day at home or a ritualized outing, the things that make you most comfortable will make the best photos.

Pursue your dreams. It’s harder to do than it sounds. As a kid, I dreamed of being an interior designer. I started school at North Georgia College with a focus on photography but transferred to the University of Georgia, where I studied Furnishings and Interiors. I pursued interior design through two kitchen design internships with Rutt of Atlanta and as a residential designer with Madison Reid Interiors. I felt at home in the field. However, a detour with jobs at Mississippi State University and Florida State University, partly to follow Ryan’s career, made me realize how much I missed creativity and my camera. Time for a new dream - a dream to focus on photography. I blended my experiences with my love for interiors and photography - to discover my dream - Sugar Photography!

In the first year, I’ve had the chance to photograph 64 beautiful families. It’s our anniversary and we want to celebrate with you! You have made the last year truly sweet for me. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family memories.

You have given me the chance to explore my dream and to develop the focus of Sugar Photography. Every single shoot brought me closer to defining a vision for the client's finished product. You let me observe your love and preserve your personalities. Your feedback shoot after shoot assures me I'm finding and capturing the realness of your family. when luke, emory + i visited starkville for pleasure/sugar photography, tommy + chellie graciously opened their home to us AND watched luke + emory every time i left for a shoot. ~~good friends~~. GREAT friends. well their two girls are perfect in every way, and luke is pretty much in love with olivia. so in the midst of my kids being seperated from ryan while we transition to a move to colorado, this weekend trip was a great change of pace for us all but especially luke. thanks for being such great friends, guys. enjoy your beautiful babies.
